Great book. This is the one where we really start seeing the developing relationship between Hero Jarvis & Lord Sebastian. Wonderful character exposition. Other authors should take a lesson from C.S. Harris on "showing instead of telling" the reader what makes the characters tick. I like the way all the books in this series move between the different worlds of Regency England, from the dregs, to the middle class, to the elite who are running the country.

This series just keeps on getting better and better. I hope C.S.Harris keeps writing. I really am becoming more attached to Sebastian. This book showed a more vulnerable side to him and he needed some of his edges softened. I can actually feel and smell and see London of 1812. The research is excellent and her grasp of history is well woven into the story. Highly recommend. Number four is almost a stand alone book, but you really need to at least read book three before this one. Of course I recommend you start at the very beginning, but whatever you decided, just start. You will enjoy, honest.

THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE READ BY THIS AUTHOR AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT. IT IS SET
AROUND 1812 AND THE COUPLE WHO ARE THE MAIN PLAYERS ARE ANYTHING BUT BEST FRIENDS. MURDER SEEMS TO BE EVERYWHERE AND ESPECIALLY IN THE BROTHELS.
THE STORY MOVES QUICKLY AND ALLIANCES SHIFT CONTINOUSLY DURING THE STORY. A YOUNG WOMSM OF MEANS IS MURDERED IN A RESCUE HOME FOR THOSE RUNNING FROM THE STREET-THE QUESTION TO ANSWER IS "WHY WAS SHE THERE?"
