Taken from accounts written in the 1940s, this is an engrossing book. Not only do you get a lot of folk history you get the enjoyment of recipes from that era. Here's a sampling of the recipes: India Pickle, Honey Gingerbread, Pasty, Soudough and the bread, biscuits, pancakes, etc. made from it, Cheese Sauce for Fish, Brown Cake, Son-of-a-gun stew.
