I wasn't sure what to expect with this book since I wasn't familiar with the 'Next' line of books and the subject matter sounded disturbing with her suspecting her husband was trying to drive her crazy. However, I did enjoy the book and the ones that have come after it. More characters add each book and relationships. This is the first in this series and sets the background the others build on. I've liked the others more with her solving mysteries.

Let me tell you a story about a girl on Long Island, Who always tried to play life by "the rules"-as outlined in the Secret Hankbook Of Long Island Rules...
The girl, uh, woman is me, Teddi Gallo. I'm the mother of three kids under the age of eleven, best friend to Bobbie (who denies there's any such thing as a secret handbook, but who knows all the moves by heart) and the daughter of June (who has inside info on the rules, but has a reserved room at South Winds Psychiatric Hospital, as well).
And if I don't have enough to send me over the edge, my too-handsome-for-his-own-good husband seems determined to drive me crazy. But why?
This is the tale of how I had to rewrite that old, dusty handbook-and while doing so, I suddenly dicovered the secret to happiness was living by your own rules.
Ant that has made everthing different.

This book was well written but not my cup of tea. I like "escape" literature, and not mysteries. This has more the flavor of a mystery.
If you like the sort of book where a very likeable main character has an incredibly disfunctional family you will like it.
