This is a fun little cookbook for some very tasty little treats. I have tried 3 of the recipes and my only complaint is that the recipe for the marshmallow filling was completely gross. It called for a lot of vegetable shortening and as a result after it was complete that's what it tasted like. I don't know if you've ever tasted plain vegetable shortening, but I can assure you it isn't good.
My son had his heart set on the chocolate whoopie pies with the marshmallow filling for dessert. I had the classic chocolate whoopies all made up and ready to be filled but the marshmallow filling was not edible. I ended up adding the rest of the jar of marshmallow fluff, about another cup of powdered sugar and a splash or two of milk. That ended up being tasty but it still didn't taste like Marshmallows.
All in all like most cookbooks there are some hits and some misses. But for the most part this book is a hit. You can create a quite a few little whoopie pie concoctions and they are unique little desserts.
I had read a few reviews where people complained about the authors not pairing up all the cakes with all the possible fillings. They do, however, have two pages dedicated to cake/filling pairings. It gives you a few very good recipes for some tasty whoopie pies and a good starting point for those less imaginative or confident bakers.
