JFK used his Harvard University skills and experience in Europe to examine the difficulties faced by a democracy in finding support for a vigorous national defense. While he emphasizes the US is different than the UK, he uses the case of the UK (considers governments 1931-1940) to urge the US to overcome democracy's "weaknesses' in comparison to totalitarian regimes because we must make our democracy work in defense planning. JFK points out that in democracies shortcomings are the fault of the people, not just the leaders.
75 years later, this detailed book is of interest to scholars. I read Henry R. Luces' two forewards, the introduciton, Chapter 10, and the speeches in the Appendix. Bibliography, no index.
