This week I have had 2 books that I've sent to other members go missing. I've also had one that I requested go missing, another about to and two more that I sent out really close to the deadline. I don't understand why this is happening to me, and why all of a sudden this week. I understand that DC should probably be used, but I have not had this happen at all since I've joined! I will be using it myself from now on, but that won't stop it from happening, and I can't very well ask whoever sends me a book to use it! If they all go missing it will be a total of 5 books go missing in one week! My post office knows me really well, I have never had a problem with them, but am very frustrated at this. Is this happening to anyone else? And, is there anything I can do?

Do you use delivery confirmation?

I've been a member since March and have lost 2 books...one sent to me and one sent by me...and both to California.  Coincidence?  This is out of 80 transactions.

It seems to be happening to me, too.  I don't know about the books I've sent recently, it hasn't been long enough to tell, but there are two books I've been waiting for for weeks.

I was starting to think it was a problem with the post office at my end, but I've never had any problems before.  Books usually get here within a week, or if they're coming from the coast maybe two weeks.

It's inconsistent though, because I received two other books very promptly, and one came from the same state as one of my soon-to-be lost books.

It sure is a puzzle.

I've noticed lately that things are taking much longer to arrive than they used to, most books taking 2-3 weeks regardless of where they're going to or coming from. I had one book arrive last week that had already gone missing.

I always use DC on my end, but that doesn't seem to hurry things up.

Brenda, I've found that from time to time I go into a phase of slow books (both to and from me).  One month almost every book coming my way was just shy of being "lost," but they all eventually made it.  Fortunately the slow phase ended and I went back to normal mailing times.  Who knows why it happens!

Media mail is shipped by the USPS on a "space available" basis.  I have heard it is running a bit slow right now, possibly due to early Christmas shopping by mail.
