This is the first inkling I've had that this is the 4th book in a series of 'Brides' books by Elizabeth Lane (see the list below). This story takes place in 1920, during Prohibition.

Ethan Beaudry is a US Marshal working undercover in a small town, Dutchman's Creek, Colorado. He's looking for a bootlegging ring and doesn't know who to trust. Ruby Denby Rumford is also new in town and she has a very disturbing past. She has purchased the old boarding house that has been used for suspicious activities. Is she part of the ring?

Potential husbands are coming out of the woodwork trying to attract the lovely Ruby but she's had enough of husbands. She had to shoot the last one and just wants to live a quiet life with her two daughters.

The main characters are fleshed-out and interesting; the situation is rather different. Ruby and Ethan are very attractive individuals with serious problems. I read this in one day because I couldn't put it down.

I wish I had started at the first book; these stories are about  Gustavsons, Denbys and Seavers.
