To me, this read like a fairly typical fantasy jaunt. I didn't think that Addy was consistently a sympathetic character. Her *situations* prompted sympathy, but her reactions to them killed a lot of it. Her reactions to the new world worked, but I thought that she had an annoying disregard for other people. She cared in her internal monologue, but overall came across to me as selfish. The journey isn't disinteresting, and it's a decent light read, but I think that the ending seemed a little forced.

It's rated children/YA, and there are some mature themes (death and discussion of the duties of a child bride *cough*) that would tend to bump it up to YA, but I consider it more of a Children's book. I'm not sorry I read it, but I wouldn't especially recommend it.
