I was very interested in the story background (WWII battles with the Japanese in the Aleutians in Alaska) as I had never heard of any actual battles on American soil. I also thought the main characters had a powerful story to tell. Unfortunately, I did not particularly enjoy reading this. Didn't care for the writer's short, clipped writing style. I did finish the book, however, because I wanted to give it a fair chance to "grab" me. Never happened and I didn't care much for the ending either. I still think the storyline is interesting, just not the way it's presented.
