Angela Carter's last novel is narrated by ancient former chorine, Dora Chance. The book is bawdy and hilarious, full of Shakespearean references and coincidences, mistaken identities, and at least five sets of twins. It reads like music hall magic realism and is a thorough delight.

Carter's last novel; it's a playful, tragic story about the Chance sisters, twins who are the bastard children of one of England's great actors. While he walks the boards in Shakespearean productions to great acclaim, they live mostly unheard-of lives in music halls.
