Hi, I have a few books on my bookshelf that are posted on the wish list.  Why are they there?  What I mean is why hasn't the memeber wanting the book been notified??  The ISBN numbers are different so I can see why that didn't trigger any thing, but the titles are the same.  Is there a way to contact the member wanting the book myself?  I would like to send these out if someone is wanting them.

Thanks

Elise

Elise

You should post them in the Book Bazaar; there is a thread Wish List  Books with Different ISBN#'s. Most likely, they will be requested right away!

Unfortunately, there is no way to contact the member directly - this is for the members who only want certain versions of books, it protects them from getting "harrassed" with emails from people with different versions.  I say "harrassed" not because I think you would do this, but because I would imagine it might feel this way if a member was getting lots of emails from different people about different versions of a book.  As the above member said, there is a thread each month where you can post books that you have that are wishlisted under different ISBNs - I always post mine there each month, and two or three get taken usually.

Thanks Lisa.  No I wouldn't want to harrass anyone, although I would like to get rid of them for the credits!  j/k

I'll have to keep checking the wish list now.

When you posted the books it should have sent an email to the people saying there was a  different version posted. It could be that they specifically want the one they WL or they just didn't respond to the email. Put the books in your signature and post them in the book bazaar.  I think a lot of people use email addresses that they don't check very often when they sign up for PBS.  It would probably be better if PBS sent pms to people instead of emails.  I know I haven't checked my email in days but I'm on the PBS site at least once a day.

I have found that many "so-called" wishlist books actually have plenty in the system that people  can readily order.  Do a search of the title of your books and you will see what I mean. I went and checked the thread in the Book Bazaar and both books you listed are already in the system on other people's shelves waiting to be ordered. In fact there are numerous copies of paperback The Shell Seekers so with the FIFO system and since the book is older it might be awhile before it gets taken from your shelf - unless someone orders it directly.

It's important to look to make sure that the wishlsted books are either paperback or hardback.  Many popular best-selling wishlisted books are actually hardback but there are tons of paperbacks of that particular book in the system ready to order. I find this especially true with the Book Bazaar thread mentioned on here.

It irritates me a little to see a long list of paperback books on that "wishlisted under a different ISBN" thread that are actually readily available (more than half-dozen copies) for me to order right now. I even come across some I have sitting on my shelf or my daughter's shelf.  No one else seems to mind though so I'm in the minority on that irritation! :)

So it could be that your book really isn't truly what I think of as a wishlisted book and there are copies in the system that people can order.

_A Breif History of Time_ is a wishlisted book with 6 (now 5) people patiently waiting for a book that does not exist. Meanwhile there are multiple copies of _A Brief History of Time_ waiting for someone to want them. I cheated and posted my properly spelled copy (but otherwise identical to the wished for book) *as* the wished for book and mailed it out the same day. I wish there was some way to notify people with the real book on their shelves that there are people out there who want it but aren't asking properly. I also wonder how many other books are like this and not getting matched.

Just letting you know you may be in the minority, but you're not alone.  Though I do get a chuckle when I see John Grisham or Nora Roberts pop up in the list when there are hundreds of those in the system.

I kept putting in Arousing Suspicion in the search thing to see if it was WL and it coudln't find the book.  When I put the ISBN# in and posted the book it came up as on WL hold-it was posted in the system as Arousing Suspicions.  That one "s" kept it from finding the book.  Luckily the ISBN#'s came up.  I was suprised there weren't 2 WL holds for it-one w/the correct spelling and one without.  I thought I was posting a WL book when I posted the Black Lyon by Jude Devereax.  When it didn't come out on hold I  looked and there are several copies available. But there is a WL hold for a newer version of the mass market paperback.  Personally I'd rather have the old one and not have to wait.
