The latest installment in the Dido and Simon series is as kooky as any Aiken has written, but alas has the feeling of being quickly dashed off in between other obligations and written simply for the sake of adding to the series without much thought put into it. The earlier volumes were much more intricate and lovingly constructed, but for some time now Aiken's work has descended into the merely nutty - still fun, but lacking the craftsmanship of her earlier work. Children will still enjoy it, and I myself chuckled at the end even though I found it came too soon and was wrapped up way too neatly and quickly.
