I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes. I see references to ARCs all over the boards, my question is--where do you get them? Do they come from the publisher, bookstores? Where?! Thanks for any help you may have! Becky |

I think most times they are sent by the publisher so people can review them before the books are out for the public. I joined Harper Collins First Look, which is fun-every month they email me with new books due out in a few months. If I want to review one, I write a short message about why I should be one to review the book. If they draw my name, they send me an ARC, I have about a month to read, review, and keep it. They can use my review wherever they want. I've only been chosen once to review "Full Of Grace" by Dorothea Benton Frank so far, but it was still fun to do! ARCs aren't supposed to be resold-but on PBS many people offer them for free, or free with another request.

Thanks for the information! I think that sounds like such fun--I've always wanted to play at "editor"--reviewing a book would come close! |

Worked at bookstore. Advanced Reading Copy of books are sent to booksellers to get buzz for a book going or to get feedback. Radio stations get music all the time. Movies play to test audiences. So much money is involved in distribution there is a need to hedge bets by testing the product. They are not the official book, more a last draft, and are not to be redistributed. |

I signed up for Harper Collins First Look books. I've only been picked one time for a book. I didn't like the book, and I wrote a review that indicated just that. It was fun.
