Is that a problem?  I'm a new member and have shipped my first two books in the last couple of days.  Last week I sent one First Class Mail and today I sent another one Priority Mail.  Does it make a difference if the wrapper says Media Mail?  Will they ship it at Media Mail speeds since the wrapper says that?

I didn't really want to send them at those rates, but I use the 24 hour machine (always packed post office) and that thing doesn't ship Media Mail.

I'm not a postal employee or anything, but as I understand it, if you ship First Class you should cross out where it says "Media Mail" on your PBS wrapper.  That's what I've done before and that's what the post office does if I have a book that's light and will be cheaper as First Class.

Is there any way to get the wrappers to print without saying Media Mail on them?  Then if I do ship Media Mail I can just write it on if anything.

If you're using the APC machine, there is a way to get it to print postage at the media mail rate, I know there's been other threads on this - here's one : http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/view_topic.php?t=76943

Scott out.

Thanks your post helped out a lot.  I'll be printing the media mail rates now.

well you can use the APC and you can have it printed any amount of postage you want

and send it media mail you just have to know what the costs are

heres that info

  • Up to 1 pound....................................................$2.13
  • More than 1 pound, less than 2 pounds....... 2.47
  • More than 2 pounds, less than 3 pounds..... 2.81
  • More than 3 pounds, less than 4 pounds..... 3.15
  • More than 4 pounds, less than 5 pounds..... 3.49
  • More than 5 pounds, less than 6 pounds..... 3.83

so if your book weighed say 2 pound then you would have the APC printed stamp fopr $2.47

When I use the PBS postage I just cut out that little part that says media mail. But then I don't trust wrapping them in paper and I use an envelope.  The lady at the USPO just crossed it out with marker. The only time I would send books priority is if I forgot to mail them.
