Written in 1993, about a year after the COBE announcements, by one of the lead scientists who shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006, "Wrinkles in Time" is Smoot's personal view of the huge, strenuous efforts required in order to "do science". The explanations of the physics and the cosmological issues are well-presented and fairly straight-forward to read. This issue is a 2007 paperback reprint and was a prime opportunity to update the ramifications of the COBE work; alas, the update is only a two-page preface naming more recent projects with minimal discussion of results and effects.
