Lovely memoir about growing up in England in the early 20th century . Diana Athill is a professional writer/editor with a long career and her writing is wonderful. From NYT review in 2002: Athill's writing is like a really good apple: crisp, juicy, at once sweet and tart. She describes youthful games and discoveries in a voice that manages to combine delighted immediacy and ironic distance. Both my Mom and I loved this.
