His Lady Mistress starts off slow. It wasn't a real intense book but it was very enjoyable. I loved Verity. She had a very hard life. Her father took his life. Max helps her (she was only 15 at the time) Max thinks Verity will be talking care by her uncle. So he leaves her.

When the story picks up again. 5 years later Max comes to check up on her. He's told Verity killed herself by her uncle. He sees what he thinks is a servant being abused by the son. Max comes to her recue. I don't want to go into to much detail but Max asks Verity mistress. Then he finds out she is her friends daughter and thinks he's been trick into marriage. He demands she marry him and then the story truely begins. Max can be the rudest most crude man and then other times he is the sweetest man ever. You learn way Max is the way he is near the end of the book and truely understand him and like him. Verity is bright, capable, compassionate, strong and very womanly. She is a woman to admire. The love scenes are ample & steamy, and the plot is a fair one. From page one the characters in this book reached out and grabbed me. This book had its good moments and some flashes of good writing, but I kept thinking, while I was reading it, how much better it could have been. The characters had a lot going for them, but the plot & its resolution just didn't jell into a really good read.

While I generally enjoy Elizabeth Rolls novels this one I had to force myself to finish. Surprisingly enough as the book should have been great given the good story line. While I liked our couple and certain parts caught my attention, overall I felt it was disjointed and wished it could have flowed a bit more smoothly and been consistently interesting. Nice read overall but not 5 stars.

This is my third time reading this one. I only know that from my previous notes and didn't remember whether I'd read it or not (probably had the British cover) except that I like this author and didn't want to miss out on any of hers.

This time around the melodramatic plotline didn't bother me. I liked the theme of trust between lovers, what constitutes that, how it may play out for good or bad. What struck me this time was the intensity of the book; I could feel the magnetic passion between this couple.

Very intense, very emotional, has quite a bit of explicit sex (but nothing grotesque or iffy), but a terrific read.

Romantic love novel where it brings out where people ASSUME that the other is to know what the other should KNOW what the other wants or thinks. Made me laugh at the antics each pulls at the other because they didn't read what the other should have known/felt what the other was thinking. No matter how old or how long we are married, this is the eternal problem of marriages....and this book reminds you of that. Very enjoyable. Foibles of relationships, great read (with laughs).

First book I have read by Elizabeth Rolls. Pretty good, read it in one day, but still wondering if I want to read the other books in the series. It seemed that the characters were ticked off at each other for most of the book. There is only so much conflict one can take before you want to pull your hair out. But still a pretty good read.
