I very seldom buy NEW books, since I average reading a book a day, and the authors I like I will keep and reread after a couple of years.  I buy at used book stores, because I collect all the previous books by an author I like, or acquire them through swap clubs like this, even the library.  So in answer to all the conditions placed on books, I usually just decline to send the book in case the receipient denies the credit, like one user who didn't like the corner snipped off [that used book stores do]. I never know if the book has been subjected to pets, or smoke, but then scrapes, scratches, wrinkles, and cover wear doesn't bother me, since I only want to read the story.  So enjoy - there are so many books and authors waiting that we have not even noticed yet.
