This book is about a family that followed a pack of wild African dogs. In the process they witnessed interesting relationships between the dogs, tenderness and cruelty. Two dogs in the pack each gave birth to a litter of pups. The pups of the alpha dog did well, but the pups of the other dog had a difficult time. This family, finally could not watch the suffering any more and had to temporarily intervene. The book is a bit dated, but still a good story of triumph.

I was so impressed with the way this book teaches writing that I bought the other three books in the series. I you have a child that needs the writing process broken down into very small steps, then this is the book for you.
