It's sort of between a hardcover and a softcover.

This book was a joy to read from beginning to end. I read it in a weekend. Jensen writes beautifully about real life experiences without pulling any punches. He neither himself nor the reader.

My kids had a love/hate relationship with this book when they were little. It's terrible and beautiful. It has the classic quality of a true fairy tale, and the illustrations are delightful. But the images and the story are "scary." This is a book my now-grown children still talk about.

I wasn't expecting much and just selected this audiobook to kill the time on my commute. I found myself really enjoying the story and looking forward to getting back in the car. The writing is sort of simple and plain but it may be the translation. In any case, it works and draws the story along. I do recommend this audiobook. I'm giving it four stars for the story and for being different.

I absolutely loved this book. I can't believe I missed it when it first came out. I read it from cover to cover in a matter of hours. I am not typically one to enjoy mysteries, but what I liked about this book was that the reader was left to form his/her own conclusions. Beautiful, evocative writing. Plenty of dramatic tension. One of the best books I have read in years.

The story is fascinating and terrible. But the narrator is equally terrible. I found it difficult to stay interested, solely on the basis of the truly lousy narration. The story itself--wow, what a story.

Story told entirely in letters exchanged by two young people, one in prison for killing his father. A bit predictable but still engaging.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. As typical with Larry McMurty, there was humor combined with drama and pathos. The story is a fascinating glimpse of history. I listened to the cds during my commute and I looked forward to getting into the car. I did give it 4 stars instead of 5, but this is because I feel a 5-star book has to be spectacular.
