Written in an almost childlike journalistic style, this book gives a glimpse into WWI that Hemingway saw first hand. If you research the themes of the book, it becomes even more meaningful. I'm glad I read it.

It is a story of the amazing resiliency of the human spirit.
So hard to believe that it took place not all that long ago!

Spellbinding! Although it reads like a novel, when you think about the life of a man who never revealed his past until recently, you have to wonder what went through his mind as he was raising his own family.

Research and reporting are excellent retelling of a horrible time.

A must read, even this long after the war.
