Brings to life the fears of many when a MMORG game designer creates a sophisticated environment interconnected with the physical world through sensors, robotics and code segments residing in a widely distributed computer network. When the designer dies of cancer, the game escalates activities in an attempt to change society as it recruits players with high level skillsets.

Another Euro-oater from one of the champions of the cliffhanger. Wheatley usually based his work on historical events (the exceptions being dystopian works) and/or the occult. His characters have all too human foibles and often get themselves in troubles because of human error. As he was a royalist, there is a lot of trouble with fascist and communist elements. Stories usually have a desperate situation every ten pages or so, which is great if you need to interrupt your reading frequently.

One of Wheatley's later books and by far the funniest. The condensations of Greek mythology alone are worth reading - makes Bulfinch boring. The abrupt cliffhangers every 5-10 pages found in his pre WWII novels have been replaced by a more natural flow of suspense/conflict/resolution.
