A thoroughly readable account of the Apollo project (with flashbacks to Gemini and Mercury, as well). I was concerned that I might lose interest after the story of Apollo 11 (like most of the world did at the time of the actual missions), but Chaikin's deft storytelling kept me hooked. The details of the lesser-known later missions, including training anecdotes, personality conflicts, and in-flight drama, make for a real page-turner.

My 19-month-old daughter and I just discovered our copy of this book, and I've fallen in love all over again. This is a perfect book to "read" with a little one who loves to look at books. The written words are deceptively simple; the connections among the charming pictures keep our eyes busy, and make it easy to find things to point at and talk about.

Miranda has created an entertaining extension of a fun nursery rhyme. We love looking at the drawings, and breathe a sigh of relief when the animals join the meal as guests.
