I love the Smoky Barrett series by Cody McFadyen. "Abandoned" did not let me down, in fact, it was one of the better stories in this series.

I won an advance copy of this book (it was released on 3/20). I thought this was a great book, with an unusual plot and an ending you may not be expecting.

This book moves from four roomates at a boarding school in Vermont, 1940 to a journalist whose sister was found murdered on the abandoned grounds of this school in Vermont, 2014. The author does a great job of seamlessly moving from 1950 to 2014 and back again. She artfully gives a background on each character in the book as the story emerges. Easy, fast read, which I like!

I loved Lisa Reardon's book "Billy Dead" so I was excited to read "Mercy Killers". However, it's been months now and I can't get past page 60. I guess this isn't for me.

Overall this was a good book. I typically don't read romances or romances disguised as mysteries, but I didn't realize this was a paranormal romance. Three stars from me is good for this type of book.

I worked as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA) and met Ashley Rhodes-Courter and heard her speak. This book is signed by the her.

It's a wonderful memoir of strength and courage to get through the foster care system and succeed!

The Widows of Malabar Hill (aka A Murder on Malabar Hill) (Perveen Mistry, Bk 1)
Review Date: 2/25/2020

I wasn't going to rate this book because I got to page 42 and just couldn't convince myself to read anymore. However, paperback swap won't accept a review without a rating, therefore, the two stars. I'm an avid reader and years ago I would have finished this book regardless. But at my age, with so many good books to yet read, I don't waste my time on anything that doesn't hold my interest almost immediately.
