Help Center - Can I send a book to a friend?

Search Terms:

If you would like to send one of your books as a gift to a friend  (PBS member or non-PBS member):

This is called the mail-to-a-Friend feature.

FIRST:

  • If the book is already on your Bookshelf
    • There is a Mail-to-a-Friend link on the upper right of the Book Details page.
  • If the book is NOT already on your Bookshelf, don't Post it!
    • It might be on a Wish List, and posting a Wish List book offers it to the first wishing member in the queue (it doesn't go onto your Bookshelf if it's on a Wish List).
    • Instead, go to the Book Details page for the book (search our site for the ISBN to get there):
      • Choose "Mail-to-a-Friend" from the More Options menu to the right of the book cover image

THEN:

  • Fill in the name and mailing address of the person to whom you want to send the book
  • The transaction will appear on your account page on the "Books Sent to a Friend" tab
  • From the transaction on your My Account page, you can print out the wrapper and send the book as usual.
    • You may use Printed Postage in the process if you like.
    • Note: Mail to Friend printings with postage do NOT earn Book Credit. No credit will be deducted, or granted, for sending your book out this way.
    • When your friend receives the book, you can mark it received from that tab.
  • To create a multiple-book transaction using the Mail to a Friend feature:
    • just create multiple Mail to a Friend transactions as above that have the same mailing address, and they will combine automatically  into a single transaction on your My Account page.

If you would like to request a book FROM ANOTHER MEMBER to send to an alternate (not your own) address:

  • Click "Order this book" on the book listing
  • On the next page, where you confirm the ship-to address, select the Specify an Alternate Address option on the page, and enter the name and address of the intended recipient into the spaces.
  • A credit will be deducted from your account, just as with any request made to another member
  • When your friend receives the book, she or he needs to tell you that it was received.  Then you simply mark it received from your the "En Route to Me" tab on your My Account page, as usual, so the sender can get credit.

The option to request a book from another PBS member to send to an alternate address is available to you ONLY after you have first received 2 books from PBS.

Don't forget to tell your friend about PaperBackSwap.com!

If you would like to send a Wish List book to a specific member, you can post it directly to that member's Wish List, as described in Can I offer my Wish Listed book to a specific member?.
