Where Are the Bugs? (Lift the Flaps) (Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life)

ISBN 1570829586 - Movie tie-ins for little children are always a nice, sneaky way to get them staring at a book instead of a screen. Fans of A Bug's Life will enjoy Where Are the Bugs? but you don't have to be a fan to like the book!

The bugs decide to build a bird (sort of their own version of a scarecrow) to scare away the grasshoppers. When their work is done, they celebrate and head home - then change their minds and stay to fight the grasshoppers. Each page has a question and each answer lurks behind a lift-able leaf.

Young readers might not notice it, but the rather abrupt decision not to go home, but to stay and fight the grasshoppers is too sudden. This makes me think the authors just slapped this book together, figuring that little kids won't be smart enough to catch it - they may be right, but it still BUGS (pun intended) me. Worth 4 stars, if only because the target audience will see the good and probably miss the negative. The illustrations are gorgeous; it's a Disney-Pixar production, of course they are!
