The Great Depression has arrived. Bob Canfields oldest son John has gone to Washington DC to work with Franklin D Roosevelt on the New Deal. He meets his new wife, Faith, the daughter of one of Missouris senators, there. His youngest son, Willie, is working to get his airline off the ground.

Loomis Bookers son, Andrew, has graduated with a medical degree and is faced with a choice do research or go to Mississippi and help the Negro community in a small town with medical issues. Andrew chooses Mississippi and is still able to continue his research. He and his wife also face racial prejudices that they havent faced before.

Del Murtaugh and his wife, Rubye, try to make a go at farming in Oklahoma. But the draughts drive to them California where they set up a landscaping business with a Japanese gardener and work on the homes of the stars.

Kendra Mills Petzold is widowed and now runs the St Louis Chronicle as well as a recently acquired radio station. She has brought Shaylin McKay on-board as a reporter and Shaylin is not afraid to go after was stories.

In Germany, Hitler has risen to power and Karl Tannenhower is one of the leaders in the National Socialist party. While in Austria, David Gelbman and his family is starting to feel the effects of Austrias alliances with Germany that bring Nazism to their homeland.

Many of the other characters from the previous books are here including a now divorced Eric Twainbaugh and Demaris Hunter, still famous as a Hollywood starlet. There is also an interesting case brought against Kerry OBaugh who is still living on the wrong side of the law.

Once again, I enjoyed this story. The stories were interesting and compelling and once, again, the foreshadowing of what is about to happen kept me interested.
