Emma Blair is one of my favorite historical novel authors, in the genre of Catherine Cookson and E.V Thompson. This is one of many I have read with a background in Scotland and in particular Glasgow. Having visited Glasgow several times, I can visualize the character settings and appreciate the unique personality of the city. Blair may not be a brilliant writer but she manages to dig into the personality of each main character and to instill a sense of identify with each and the readers. This books was a short and fast read, and ended on a sad note. Get out the tissues!
