This book presents a lot of good, basic information about designing web pages. It is dated! The web has changed a lot in the years since publication. Yet I still highly recommend this. It gives you the basics about images, type, layout and making an attractive, highly functional web site. It's also printed on high quality stock with good full-color images and reference tables.
You won't learn about Flash, AJAX or database-driven sites here. you will learn solid concepts of design, interactivity, and how the fundamentals of HTML work. An that's enough for most people just starting out.
