Bernard Lister, otherwise known since childhhod as "Blister" was an unhappy child who grew into an unhappy, bitter, solitary man. A brilliant historian, he stumbles on a perfect way to pay back the cousins who made his childhood miserable and the town where he never fit in, and gain professional fame and accolades all at the same time. So of course, he's murdered.
Pollard and Toye follow garden paths and dead ends until they solve yet another crime.
Classic British Village/Scotland Yard police procedural.
