At the convocation that welcomes the new millennium, the Pope dies in the arms of Peter Carenza, a charismatic young priest. With the Pontiff's blessing of Carenza still ringing in their eiars, the Archbishops unanimously select him as the new Pope. A year later, Carenza's "new Church for a new Millennium" is shocking...and attracting...the faithful by the millions.

Peter Carenza's abilities go far beyond raising the dead and healing the sick. The product of a secret Vatican conspiracy to bring about the Second Coming, Carenza is far more than the plotters bargained for and his ministry is haunted by death and madness.

Only three people know the truth about the new Pope: the woman Carenza once loved, who has seen his true nature; an Archbishop who distrusts Carenza despite his miracles; and Carenza's mother, a cloistered nun who truly hears the word of God. This new trinity must stop the Pope before his greatest plan reaches its horrible conclusion.
