For me, parts of this book were somewhat boring, astonishingly original, suspenseful, surprising and a bit overly complicated. On the whole, it's a good read.

It was eerie reading this during the pandemic because much of it concerns an isolated community convinced that a virulent "pox" exists beyond its borders.

For various reasons that would spoil the story for others, I'm not sure the plot passes the plausibility test, though.
