I've enjoyed her books in the past, and probably will in the future, but this one was truly bad. The characters were so fake. In addition, I'm a horse racing fan. With a little research, she could have done OK with this book.

For one thing, Roberts had the horses for a race being saddled at their barns. Makes you wonder about her research â she never went to a racetrack, apparently, or even looked at a map of one. Every single racetrack in the U.S. has something called a paddock. It's where the horses are saddle and âriders upâ is called.

Then there was the yearling filly, whom they were certain was going to win the Triple Crown in the spring. It's fun to dream, but it's impossible to enter a two-year-old in any of the Triple Crown events. They're for three-year-olds. Again, basic research. Sorely lacking.
