I gave up on lesbian fiction in the 70s because I couldn't find anything I felt was worth reading. Sims has certainly changed my opinion on that! The protagonist (Lillian Byrd) is a regular person who happens to be witty reporter for a small-time Detroit weekly. She also has a way of blundering in, mostly out of innocense, where no one else would go.

This is a fast read. There is a local lesbian bar, a little tastefully done sex & some violence. I won't go into the mystery because it would ruin it for you, but I will say it's a very off-beat one. I would recommend this book for anyone (gay/lesbian or not) with a sense of humor who loves mysteries. This book is the 1st in a series & I'm already looking for the next one.
