My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Id like to thank Penguin Group and First To Read http://firsttoread.com for the opportunity to read this ARC. Receiving this ARC free has in no way affected my review.

This is my first ever Rachel Caine and Morganville Vampires novel. As the last ever novel in the series, the author did a decent job of writing it as an acceptable stand-alone. Although there were a few moments were I was lost in unknown Morganville or character history, I was able to take in a fair amount of background information from the authors writing.

Overall the story is a little too cheeky for my paranormal taste. Id have to characterize the Morganville vampires as a young teen beginner series. Ones that would attract the teen reader or non-hardcore reader.

I was quite interested in the authors character, Myrnin. The mad-hatter vampire! Too intriguing! Claire and Shane were not well developed characters in the book but I would imagine that over the last 15 Morganville books a reader would have already learned everything about them. Eve and Michael were well created and their situation in Daylighters was an intense one that brought up my own emotions right along with theirs.

I do look forward to reading more Rachel Caine novels though. Prince of Shadows is due to be published in 2014. A stand-alone retelling of Romeo and Juliet.
