I'm conflicted as to what kind of review to give this. I enjoyed it, despite its being too fast-paced and confusing. Many times, I didn't know whether to take his descriptions literally or not. For example, a guy suddenly wanted to go inside an oubliette. A crowd goes with him to it, but then the main character is having a claustrophobic episode inside this oubliette he describes as being so small that a man can't even stand up straight inside it. Next thing that happens, the whole crowd goes down in the oubliette and there's suddenly a tunnel underground. ??
For me, personally, its most redeeming quality was that the main character, the necromancer, reminded me so much of Dante of Devil May Cry. And I really like Self.
It was a fast read, but that was because the print is rather large. But, yeah, very fast-paced. Events sweep by and things get confused. Hard to follow. I only stuck with it because dude was so much like Dante.
