It's not as if there are any real surprises in this book. The title character, a sad and disillusioned widower who wants only to join his dead wife, is dragged grumbling and resisting back into the human community, led by the young couple who buy the house next to his and begin the relationship by backing over his mailbox with the moving van. But the journey is such fun, the writing so delightful, and the character of Ove so recognizable, that one can't help but fall in love with him.
