Great story with a very good execution. The premise of the book is right up front... Carol has a mystery illness that makes her seem dead but she is actually in a deep coma. On top of that, only 3 people know if this affliction. One just died, the other disappeared from Carol's life and the last is her husband who secretly wants her gone. I was very curious how you would fill up a book with the just that but Malerman made it work. There were a few times (mostly in Dwight's chapters) that I would just skim through but for most part I enjoyed it. Sheriff Opal was probably one of my favorite good people but Smoke is the winner for best character. You could just tell that he was innately evil. That guy will haunt me for a long time. Ready to get my hands on another Malerman!
