Appalachian doctor Laura McBride is first on the scene of a plane crash and she finds her med school roommate's fiance, Dr. Brad Jeremiah, barely conscious. She treats him but he later develops some form of amnesia, where all distant past and short-term memories are gone. He no longer remembers he's a doctor or that he's engaged to Darlene.
Laura lives in the shadow of her physician father and has a friendship-cum-romance with Dr. Mark Harrod. Mark and Brad begin vying for her affections, and Laura is drawn to Brad but keeps her distance since he's an unbeliever.
The dialogue in this book is sometimes painful to read; people simply do not speak this way. A dark secret from Brad's past threatens his relationship with Laura, but this too is beyond belief (an affair with a woman who's now married to a high-profile politician). The situation as described in the book is at odds with how modern medicine is practiced.
The romance is pleasant enough, but this book is far to soap opera-ish for me.
