Easy to see from this story how the son was able to rationalize killing his mother and brother and trying to kill his father. Everything in his life was taken care of by his parents, truly "helicopter" parents if there ever were any. His father is still taking care of Bart's problems and making excuses for him by writing this book. They may be a religious family, but they come off as "holier than thou".
