I was a little bit skeptical when I first saw this book. But I am a sucker for any type of story like Robin Hood. The good person stealing from the bad to help the poor, living in the forests and skilled in archery, etc. I am sure you get the point. So I started this one and I literally read it within a day! Once I began the story I couldn't put it down. Dina Sleiman sure knows how to pen a taut and gripping tale.
The book opens with Lady Merry, a young woman of only 17, lying in wait to attack a royal carriage and steal the jewels it carries. They live by a creed, never harming anyone and only stealing when necessary. You see, Lady Merry is the leader of a band known as The Ghosts of Farthingale Forest. What others don't know is that their group is not a band of thieving men but rather a group of teenagers who are caring for young ones with no parents.
From the minute I opened the book I fell in love with Lady Merry. She was born into a family of wealth but when her father tried to assassinate the King, he was killed and the family torn apart. Their whole village was plundered and many people murdered. So Merry sets out to protect the young ones and she does so with the help of her "men". I loved her fearless outer self that she showed to everyone but on the inside she is uncertain that what she did was right. When she was young she loved a boy named Timothy, but after everything that happened in her family she has no clue where he is and she is sure he could never love her. Never did she dream that they would meet up and he would capture her:)
There is mystery, romance, intrigue and excitement galore to be found inside these pages. Not to mention the fun of the Sunshine men that I thought was a great addition to the story. There were two words in here where a man calls another an illegitimate child which is true but still not expected. I also have to say, I personally liked Allen better than Timothy but I can't wait to read his story in the next book. Again, you can't go wrong with this one. Loved it!!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% mine.
