I've always been fascinated by the Roman Legions and this series about them and two centurions who are the principle characters is just too good not to read. What makes it even more interesting is that Scarrow includes historical characters in his novels.

Not that many other historical novelists don't, but the two principle antagonists in this series---not the centurions---who are enemies in this book were destined to fight each other in Rome's future too. I hope I'm not giving anything away here that the readers of this series can't look up on Wikipedia, but both accomplish their dreams, although one dream is very short lived.

And the action is almost non-stop as Marco and Cato strive to uncover the traitor in the ranks and recover some famous scrolls, which will negate the death sentence they are under.
