The first half of the book was very exciting; the second half was not so interesting. I skipped over paragraphs and pages to get to the interesting parts.
Eighteen-year-old Jessie Stuart is alone on her family's homestead when trouble comes her way. Jessie finds an injured man in her root cellar. Before long, others come to find him and hang around her farm because the injured man's horse is there. This half is very interesting and action-packed.
SPOILER ALERT: I didn't buy that the US Army couldn't arrest one of their own officers in three months. It ruined the 'surprise' bad man.
