While I will admit I found a lot of this 2-novel saga to be a page-turner, I would classify much of it as teenage sci-fi. There were just too many scientific miracles and lucky breaks in the book for it to be rated as adult sci-fi.
Fortunately, I have nothing against might be called young adult books and still read and enjoy them into my 70s.
I was also unable to figure out how the Guardians escaped Earth in one ship, but a few generations later they numbered in the hundreds of thousands. Maybe there was nothing else to do on the ship.
