This is the second of three stories about the McBride Menaces as they are growing up. Kat is the focus of this book. From HER BODYGUARD, we know that Kat married an actor, Rory Callahan, became pregnant and found she was married to a bigamist.

Kat was devastated when Rory died trying to do the right thing. As this book opens, Kat and Emma are in Galveston, talking to one Jake Kimball, adventurer and scoundrel extraordinaire. Jake and Kat are interested in each other but it is years later before they meet again.

Things I liked: The chemistry between Jake and Kat was great, they were funny together and the story had lots of twists. It was great having Luke and Mari play important roles in this story. Most of the McBride's were also part of this tale; Trace and his worries over his 3 daughters are amusing.

Perhaps I shouldn't have read HER SCOUNDREL on the heels of the one before; the curse of the McBride clan got a bit old. I also thought the solution (at the end) was a bit too pat. Otherwise, this is a page-turner.
