Interesting plotline and characters. However this reads like an academic exercise in a Writing Mysteries 101 Class. I have a personal bias against academic style writing because it is passive to the extreme, lacks punch, and is excessively constrained by structure. In this case this style of writing distracted me from the story itself. If you don't mind the academic style of writing you will like this one. My wife, who is an academic and isn't phased by meandering prose and passive language, loved this book and is recommending it to everyone. So, there you go. To each his/her own.
