This book had me hooked from the first page to the last. I could not read it fast enough.
Post Civil War, a young abused wife gains the courage to flee her home in Georgia with her young brother in tow and finds herself in Michigan where she signs on to be the camp cook. The story is rich in details of the many various personalities in the camp as well as wonderful details of the lumbering industry. Lots of twists and turns that only make you want to read faster to find out the next portion of the story. This is a feel great story and you will laugh, cry and say "way to go girl" as Katie finds the strength to stand up for herself and make a new life.
