The title story in this collection was not as gripping as some of Rule's other choices. All along, we know who the killer is, and we learn much more about his wife than we ever do about his victim. Why? To prove he terrorized his wife? I think we got the point the first time we learned he was taping her phone conversations. Then it was repeated at least twice more. I hope volume three of Rule's short cases proves more exciting than volume two. Ann Rule's Crime Files, #2.
