With a rope around his neck, Trace Cordell is seconds away from being hanged for a murder he doesn't remember after a drunken night at the local watering hole. Suddenly a woman from Trace's past speaks up. Flanna Kennedy tells the towns people that she saw the whole thing. Trace wasn't the person who killed the man. She also tells them that she is there to claim her husband and take him home. Trace knows very well that he never married Flanna. She just wants his help on securing her land. But Trace sees this as a chance to let Flanna fall in love with him while he helps her with her land.
I usually like Cathy Maxwell's writing, but I thought this short story was weak. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
