Lady Phoebe Batten started losing her sight at a young age and is now completely blind. Her overprotective brother, the Duke of Wakefield, hires Captain James Trevillion to serve as her armed bodyguard to be with her at all times. Phoebe doesn't want a bodyguard, especially Captain Trevillion who irritates her at every turn. But an attempted kidnapping shows Phoebe that James will do anything to protect her, even put his own life in jeopardy. James desperately wants to protect Phoebe. He'll even go against her brother's wishes to keep her safe.

I hoped Phoebe would get her own story since she was introduced earlier in the series. Putting her with Captain Trevillion was a perfect choice. Phoebe feels trapped in her current situation. Her brother worries that people will talk about her or that she will be injured. Therefore he has restricted her movements, not allowing her to have a season of her own. When her safety is threatened, things go from bad to worse when she is assigned a full-time bodyguard. James sees the strength in Phoebe and wants to help her spread her wings. He cares about her but knows that the sister of a Duke would never be allowed to marry a former soldier.

I love the romance in this book. The chemistry between Phoebe and James is palpable. So far this is my favorite story in the Maiden Lane series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
